How to Be a Vote Counter in Toastmasters

The Vote Counter collects ballots and tallies results for the meeting's awards: Best Prepared Speaker, Best Table Topics Speaker, and Best Evaluator.

Before the meeting: Prepare ballots with the names of all speakers, Table Topics participants, and evaluators. Bring pens for members who forget theirs.

During voting: Distribute ballots after each voting section (Table Topics voting happens before evaluations; speaker/evaluator voting happens at the end). Collect all ballots promptly.

Counting: Tally each ballot carefully. In case of a tie, re-count. The Toastmaster of the Day will announce results — you whisper the winners to them privately.

Eligibility: Members who served in a role (e.g., a speaker votes for Table Topics and Evaluator, but not for Best Speaker if there's only one speaker) — check with your club's customs on voter eligibility.

Pro tip: If you have time, announce the total vote count for each category to add a sense of participation: "We had 18 votes for Best Table Topics Speaker!"
