What is Pathways?
Pathways is Toastmasters International learning experience, introduced in 2018 to replace the old Competent Communicator and Competent Leader tracks. It offers 11 learning paths, each designed around a specific area of personal and professional growth. Each path has 5 levels with projects that build your skills progressively.
The 11 Learning Paths
Develop powerful presentations and speaking techniques.
Build creative communication and story-writing skills.

Master persuasion and negotiation techniques.
Build and lead effective collaborative teams.

Level 1–5 Structure
2 projects focused on foundational communication skills
2-3 projects building on your path-specific focus area
2-3 projects with increasing complexity and audience engagement
1-2 projects, often requiring leadership roles
2 projects including a final high-impact keynote project

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, members can purchase additional paths and switch, but completed work does not transfer.
Through Toastmasters Base Camp at www.toastmasters.org — your club admin sets up your account.
Most members complete a path in 2-3 years, though some complete it faster.
Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) is the highest honor — requires completing two paths and leadership roles.
Level 1 and 2 projects must be completed in sequence; higher levels offer more flexibility.
Level 5 includes a final high-impact project (often a keynote or large-scale speech) demonstrating full mastery.
