Free Online Toastmasters Speech Timer
This free Toastmasters speech timer uses the standard green-yellow-red traffic light system used in Toastmasters International meetings worldwide. Whether you are practicing at home, timing speakers at a club meeting, or running a speech contest, this timer provides the exact visual cues Toastmasters speakers rely on.
The timer works on any device — phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops — directly in your browser. No app download required. For virtual Toastmasters meetings on Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams, simply share your screen to display the timer for all participants.
How the Toastmasters Timing System Works
In every Toastmasters meeting, the Timer is responsible for signaling speakers with colored cards or lights. The system is simple:
Green — Minimum Time Reached
You have spoken for at least the minimum required time. Keep going — you are on track.
Yellow — Midpoint Warning
You are approaching the maximum. Begin wrapping up your conclusion.
Red — Maximum Time Reached
Stop speaking. In contests, going 30 seconds past red results in disqualification.

- Use a stopwatch or timer that shows seconds
- Signal green at the minimum time
- Signal yellow at the midpoint
- Signal red at the maximum time
- Keep red displayed until the speaker finishes
- Record the exact time for each speaker
- Report any timing violations to the Chief Judge
